HILLARY JACOBS
Hilscooking is not like any ordinary catering Chef/owner Hilary Jacobs likes to feed that guilty pleasure that hides inside us and twist it with her own personal touch. Hilary Jacobs graduated from Tante Marie in San Francisco in 2006, walking away with a larger understanding of food and a greater desire to cook. Pastry Chef:David Benton
Self-taught in the art of cake making and decorating, Pastry Chef David Benton toiled for years as an office admin in the San Francisco Bay Area to make ends meet. Always cooking, he stumbled upon baking in a culinary class and never forgot the impact it made on him. Laid off in the 2009 recession David used the time off to concentrate full-time on learning all he could about baking.
Sugarsweet Pastries was born. With only youtube tutorials and baking books to guide him, David spent the next 2 years teaching himself the art of cake making and designing. By 2011 his unique and artistically designed cakes were getting noticed and the media was calling for interviews.
His love of cookies led him to a name change in 2012. Sugarsweet Pastries became Sugarsweet Cookie + Cake Studio. In the same year he began exclusively using organic ingredients in all his unique baked goods. Pastry Chef David’s design aesthetic is colorful, funky and unconventional with modern and dramatic touches. His influences aren’t other pastry chefs but past & present leaders in fashion, pop culture, music and film.
Pastry Chef David has been featured in magazines like Cuisine Noir, Basil, Modern Flavor and Munaluchi Bride. His work has been featured in blogs like 100 Layer Cake and he has been interviewed on numerous online radio programs. He’s made fresh berry tarts for actor Danny Glover, baked Congresswoman Barbara Lee’s birthday cake and made campaign cakes for ex-KPIX newscaster Dana King. He’s worked in the kitchen with Top Chef Just Dessert’s contestant Erika Davis and celebrity chef G. Garvin.
A cake from Sugarsweet is sure to bring the kind of star power and wow factor that will keep people talking. Pastry Chef David Benton currently resides in Oakland, California and is working towards building the cake studio of his dreams!
